Loungers sales up 45% over Christmas

Restaurant/cafe/bar group Loungers saw an increase in sales of nearly 45% over the Christmas period.

Total net sales for the four weeks ending 3 January were nearly £6.9m, up 44.9%. Loungers opened 20 sites between Christmas 2014 and Christmas 2015, (although two of the 20 opened during the four-week period to 3 January 2016 and therefore didn't trade for the full four weeks).

Like-for-like sales for the four-week period, against Christmas 2014, were up 4.1%.

Loungers, which opened two new Lounge sites in Swansea and Bury St Edmunds in the lead-up to Christmas, also confirmed that sales at its 12 Cosy Club sites accounted for almost 32% of total sales for the period.

Loungers managing director, Nick Collins, said: "We enjoyed strong trading over the Christmas period with the vast majority of sites posting new weekly sales records.

"We're very happy with the performance of the whole estate and in particular sales at the Cosy Clubs were extremely pleasing".

Most recently, the company opened Cappello Lounge in Newcastle-under-Lyme on Wednesday 13 January in a 3,400 sq ft former building society.

The group is expected to launch its latest Cosy Club in Hereford in February along with Lounge openings in Hinckley and Newquay in the same month.
