Marcus Wareing to open mid-price restaurant in Seven Dials

Marcus Wareing has revealed plans to open a new mid-price "West End eatery" in Shaftesbury's Seven Dials as he steps up his role as a restaurateur.

Tredwell's will open at 4 Upper St Martin's Lane, London, as part of Marcus Wareing Restaurants, and will aim to "capture the vibrancy" of the surrounding area.

Arranged over three floors, the 5,500 sq ft restaurant will be situated opposite Jamie's Italian and Dishoom when it opens at some point this summer, with an exact launch date still to be confirmed.

Commenting on whether the Tredwell's concept may be rolled out if successful, a spokesperson for the company indicated to Caterer and Hotelkeeper that this is an option.

"Tredwell's is something that will grow and evolve - it may stay as one or it may turn into more, Marcus Wareing Restaurants are just taking the time to get this one right first," they said.

Wareing said that he wanted to be a part of Seven Dials' reputation as London's "number one destination" for new concepts, international brands and creative cuisine.

Other restaurants in the area include Russell Norman and Richard Beatty's Ape & Bird, Ross Shonhan's Flesh & Buns, Hawksmoor, Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels, Roast + Conch and Timberyard.

The announcement comes ahead of the re-opening of Wareing's revamped two-Michelin-starred restaurant at the Berkeley hotel on 24 March, which will offer diners a more informal style of service under the rebranded name Marcus.

"Tredwell's marks a significant new departure for my business as it is the beginning of an exciting stage of growth and it also sees me move further into the role of a restaurateur," said Wareing. "Tredwell's will not be about me and my food as you will not see me in the kitchen as I remain committed to my restaurant Marcus at the Berkeley Hotel.

"It is a project from Marcus Wareing Restaurants and the skilled and experienced team that we have created, which will be led by group operations director Chantelle Nicholson."

Charles Owen, Seven Dials portfolio manager at Shaftesbury, added: "To have secured such a great new concept from Marcus Wareing Restaurants is a fantastic endorsement of Seven Dials' reputation as a thriving destination for leading brands.

"More than that, however, it is a reflection of our strategy to deliver a critical mass of UK and international restaurants and retailers that position Seven Dials as a unique destination in London."

Davis Coffer Lyons acted for Shaftesbury. Marcus Wareing Restaurants dealt directly.
