Masala World's Ranjit Mathrani appointed High Sheriff of Greater London
The ceremonial posts conferred by the Crown through Warrant from the Privy Council means Mathrani must attend Royal visits and be responsible for the protection of Her Majesty's High Court Judges, though this duty is delegated to the chief constable of police.
It is a non-political role that in recent years has focussed on crime reduction, particularly among young people, through its two charities, DebtCred and National Crimebeat.
With his wife Namita Panjabi and her sister Camellia, Mathrani owns and runs Chutney Mary, Veeraswamy, Amaya and the seven-strong Masala Zone chain.
