McDonald's launches toasted sandwich range

McDonald's has launched a new deli sandwich range as it changes its menu to increase choice and fight off high-street competition.

The Toasted Deli Sandwiches were officially launched last week in all 1,252 of its UK outlets. They had already been trialled successfully in 50 restaurants on Tyneside since January.

McDonald's menus have undergone a series of adjustments lately, including the introduction of "healthier options" such as salads, fruit and yogurt.

Keith Kenny, head of food strategy for McDonald's UK, said the reason behind the latest change was to offer more choice and variety to the customer.

"The sandwich is a big market. We think we've got a better product than Subway, and it has worked well in other countries such as Australia, Canada and some US states," he said.
