Meatcure closes final site

Midlands burger chain Meatcure has closed its last restaurant in Market Harborough after five years of trading.

The restaurant was the first Meatcure to open in 2014 and the brand's last site left after it closed its other four restaurants in 2017. The group blamed "excessive rents and rates and rising costs and fewer people spending".

Posting on Facebook, the group said: "To all our amazing customers we're afraid to say it's over.

"We gave everything and invested every penny we had into making Meatcure the exceptional restaurant that we all loved so vey much. But unfortunately with excessive rents and rates and rising costs and fewer people spending than ever before, and with no money behind us to give Meatcure the regeneration we believe it needed to stay current we can no longer continue.

"We've battled for the past few weeks with our family and friends and our amazing staff beside us to exhaust all opportunities, ideas and paths but in all our time is done. We're heart-broken if we are honest and even more so knowing that you guys will be too. Most importantly our staff, new and old, have grown up with us and become like family continue to remind us that it's all about the people through the good times and bad because life is about experiences and memories and having amazing people to share them with is what really matters!

"The demand for us to be events based has continued to grow but we could never afford to be away from the business to do so. However we're not rich, we're a chef and a restaurant manager that tried to ‘make-good' and for a while we did, but we're going to have to start all over again. If anything we want to go back to our roots of being local, exceptional and having a good time with great people. What we're trying to say is we just might now give events a go! As Meatcure!? Who knows?! But if this has taught us anything is to never give up, believe big and never be scared to fail!

"We want to thank you all, our customers, our long-suffering families and amazing staff over the years."

Meatcure was founded by Rob Martyniak and Paul Rigby and expanded over three years to include five sites in total. However, the four outposts were closed before the business fell into liquidation in November 2017 owing £304,000 to creditors, leaving just the original site in Market Harborough left open, operated by Martyniak.

In June 2016, the group had hoped to crowdfund £350,000 to open five more restaurants, although the bid was not successful.
