Michael Caines to open Abu Dhabi restaurant
Two-Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines is set to launch his first restaurant outside the UK next month with the opening of Pearls by Michael Caines in the United Arab Emirates. The restaurant will be located in the 382-bedroom Jumeirah at Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi, and will open mid-September.
The chef announced his new venture to his followers on Twitter. He said: "Exciting times ahead as I look to open my first restaurant outside of the UK in the @JEtihadTowers this September."
Last year Caines hinted at opening a restaurant in the United Arab Emirates, while visiting the country to participate in the Gourmet Abu Dhabi food festival. He said he had been studying the Abu Dhabi market and was considering the possibilities of opening a venture there.
The news comes shortly after the approval of plans for Caines' "dream" hotel, when he was granted permission to transform Courtlands House in Lympstone, Devon, into a luxury hotel and restaurant.
Caines is currently continuing in his role as executive chef at the two Michelin-starred restaurant at Gidleigh Park in Chagford, Devon, where he has been since 1994. In 2006 he was awarded an MBE for services to cooking.
Jumeirah at Etihad Towers currently has 11 food and beverage outlets covering a variety of cuisines including French, Italian, Lebanese and Japanese.
