Mobile payment firm to match tips as part of National Waiters' Day

Payment app provider Zapper is promising to match all tips received by waiters at businesses using its technology today to mark National Waiters' Day.

The firm said it had contacted the 555 venues that use the Zapper app to let them know about the campaign.

It claims its mobile technology, which produces a QR Code on a bill to enable customers to pay online, frees up time for waiting staff to offer better service.

Zapper UK chief executive Gerry Hooper said: "Waiters have been an incredible source of knowledge and charisma for the hospitality industry for hundreds of years and we've made it our mission to ensure they are championed and celebrated on a day dedicated to them.

"However we have also already kicked off our ‘Waiter of the Month' initiative, with each restaurant being able reward their staff with a variety of incentives. While some mobile payment apps miss the value that waiters offer, we believe that the technology should support waiters in their job and not replace them."
