New pizza boosts Christmas sales at Domino's

A two-layer pizza launched in time for Christmas helped boost sales at Domino's UK & Ireland by 13.2% over the festive period, the pizza chain said today.

The introduction of the Double Decadence pizza, along with an aggressive marketing campaign, meant weekly sales hit a new record over the six weeks to 2 January. With second-half like-for-like sales up by 8.2%, on top of a 4.9% increase in the first six months, overall sales growth for the year had come in at 6.6%, said Domino's. But this was still down on last year's figure of 7.4%, the 357-strong chain added. Domino's online sales also hit a record in the period, up to £1.2m over the six-week period, a 61.9% increase on the same period last year.
