New pub company buys Essex freehouse

Newly-formed pub company Family First Inns has bought its first property in the Essex village of Little Waltham.

Lynn McCartney acquired the freehold on the Dog and Gun country inn and restaurant from Keans Inns off a guide price of £615,000.

The food-led inn, which dates back to the 17th century, is located beside the Boreham Road four miles from Chelmsford.

Catering accounts for 72% of its business.

The property comprises a 38-seat restaurant and 26-seat bar and dining room, trade and private gardens, and a four-bedroom owners' accommodation.

The inn was sold through the Ipswich office of Christie + Co.
