The Albero restaurant in Northampton has closed this week after concerns over its future financial viability.
The restaurant, which opened in October 2010, was designed to provide a professional environment for apprentices and catering students of the college.
After a consultation period with the staff and Northampton College, the college decided that the restaurant was no longer financially viable.
In a statement, Len Closs, principal of Northampton College said: "The Albero has been operating in the midst of a nationwide downturn and its failure to generate sufficient income is no reflection on the staff who have worked very hard in difficult circumstances to deliver an excellent dining experience."
"We are very proud of what has been achieved at the Albero and we are grateful for the support of some loyal customers who have been highly complimentary about the standard of food and service that the restaurant has delivered since it opened," he added.
Four full-time members of staff have been made redundant, while three apprentices who were following Apprenticeship programmes at the restaurant will remain with the college and will be able to complete their qualifications.

Goodwill will be joining Ruston Hall & Spa in Northamptonshire while looking at future projects with them.
