Openings: Thompson's
Chef Robert Thompson has opened his first solo restaurant on the Isle of Wight. Set in Newport, it offers a contemporary open kitchen and a modern British menu inspired by the flavours of the island and Thompson's experiences. Thompson has previously worked at Cliveden House hotel and was head chef at the Hambrough, where he won a Michelin star in 2009. He is also a food ambassador for the Isle of Wight.
Thompson's sits in a restored building with many of its original features, including exposed brick walls and the old wooden beams that once formed the basis of a flower shop. The bar and dining room are bathed in a warm glow from modern copper lamps and hanging pendant lights. Menus available include an eight-course tasting menu, à la carte options and a separate lunch menu.
