Owners of Mountain Valley Wines to open Donostia restaurant in London
The owners of wine merchant Mountain Valley Wines are to open their first restaurant venture this spring, with the launch of Donostia near Marble Arch in London.
Nemanja Borjanovic and Melody Adams will open Donostia on Seymour Place on 6 June offering a food and drinks menu inspired by the Basque region, which stretches across northern Spain and south west France.
Named after the Basque name for San Sebastian, the 40-seat restaurant will feature an open kitchen with counter dining as well as a more intimate dining room.
Head chef Tomas Baranski, who was previously head chef at Sam and Eddie Hart's Barrafina, will be in charge of the kitchen. His menu will include a selection of charcuterie as well as Pintxo appetisers including crispy prawns with pancetta and foie gras with walnuts.
Meanwhile a tapas menu will feature dishes such as cod cheeks cooked in Pil-Pil sauce, Cantabrian sea anchovies in Basque marinade, "txuletillas" - lamb chops à la plancha or crispy Tolosa-style beef tongue.
The wine list will showcase wines from across Spain and France, with a strong emphasis on the Basque wine regions such as Rioja Alavesa and Getaria (Txakoli), as well as the famous Basque cider.
