The Ivy restaurant in Spinningfields, Manchester, has reopened and staff have thanked those who came to its aid after a fire ripped through the roof terrace on Friday.

It was extinguished after four fire engines and an aerial appliance attended the scene.

The restaurant was partly reopened on Saturday, with a message on the Ivy Manchester's website thanking supporters and promising a "Super Party" to thank Manchester for the warm welcome it had received.

It added that the ground-floor Ivy Brasserie and Ivy Asia on the second floor had been unaffected.

The statement said: "The fire was contained in one section of The Roof Garden thanks to the excellent work of the Greater Manchester Fire Services who have informed us that the building is now totally safe to occupy.

"Whilst work starts to refurbish and repair any damage done to The Roof Garden, the ground floor Ivy Brasserie and Ivy Asia on the second floor are completely unaffected by the fire and will continue to operate as usual."

It added: "As a thank you for the very warm welcomes that Manchester has given us since we opened on 27 November, we are planning a Super Party on Friday 12 April, encompassing the entire building and outside areas.

"Thank you again Manchester, we love being here."
