PizzaExpress launches menu competition

Restaurant chain PizzaExpress has launched a competition for customers to create a pizza that could feature on the menu of its 440 restaurants - only the second time in its 50-year history that it has held such a competition.

The winner will receive £10,000 and a holiday, in addition to seeing their creation on PizzaExpress menus.

Participants can put their pizza together through the Create Your New Favourite website, with over more than 250 ingredients to choose from - ranging from tzatziki to tarragon and cauliflower to kale. There will also be a number of sweet options, such as marshmallows, fudge, custard, and caramel sauce.

Entries, which open today (24 March) will be whittled down to just five by a panel of judges before going to the public vote from 23 June until 15 July.

Children are also being invited to draw a picture of what they'd like to find on a pizza on a Create Your New Favourite activity sheet, available in all PizzaExpress restaurants. One winner will be selected by the manager of each restaurant and each winner will receive a Kids' pizza making party for them and seven friends.

PizzaExpress recently reported first half like-for-like sales growth of 6.8%, with turnover up 9.14% to £231m in the 28 weeks to 11 January 2015.

The business, previously owned by Gondola Holdings, was sold to Chinese private equity firm Hony Capital for £900m last year.
