Pony & Trap family launches second restaurant

The Eggleton family, owners of Michelin-starred Pony & Trap, is set to launch tearoom and fish café Salt & Malt in Bristol's Chew Valley Lake.

Scheduled to open on 2 March and headed by chef Josh Eggleton and his father, the outlet will be a short walk from Chew Magna, home to the Pony & Trap.

Previously a teashop, the eaterie now comprises a fish and chip takeaway, a café-restaurant, an ice-cream parlour and a 200-seat outdoor area overlooking the lake. The menu includes gluten-free fish and chips, fresh mussels and squid, with a focus on local produce.

The 31-year-old chef won the Gordon Ramsay Scholar competition at the age of 19. He went on to train at various Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe and the US before returning home to open the Pony & Trap with the help of his family. Josh earned the pub its Michelin star in 2011, which it has retained to this day.
