Rainer Becker and Joël Robuchon to open in Hong Kong
Renowned chefs Rainer Becker and Joël Robuchon are both planning new restaurants in Hong Kong, Caterer can exclusively reveal.
The two chefs are following in the footsteps of Pierre Gagnaire, who will open a new restaurant on the 25th floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong when it reopens in autumn after a major renovation.
Becker's latest project - the second Zuma restaurant - will be located in Hong Kong Central's new luxury mixed-used development, the Landmark.
The restaurant is scheduled to open early next year and will have 150 seats in the main restaurant and 120 in a mezzanine bar.
Zuma Hong Kong will be operated by Becker and his business partner, Arjun Waney. A head chef has yet to be announced.
"Business is booming in Hong Kong," Becker said. "It's a very dramatic site and an exciting opportunity."
Robuchon is also planning a restaurant in the development as part of Mandarin Oriental's new boutique hotel, the Landmark Oriental. It is not yet known which of his brands Robuchon will use but the new restaurant is expected to launch in the Autumn.
