Ramsay and Beckham's Union Street Cafe receives 1,200 bookings in 30 minutes

Gordon Ramsay and David Beckham's new London restaurant received 1,200 reservations within half an hour of its website going live, according to reports.

The Union Street Café off Borough Market, which opens on 16 September, had taken 2,500 reservations within four hours and is nearly fully booked on Friday and Saturday nights until November.

Ramsay told the Evening Standard: "In London right now we're spoilt with the range and sheer number of phenomenal restaurants available, so it's amazing to see the response today when bookings opened. We can't wait to get the doors open and start welcoming guests."

Dishes at the restaurant, designed by Russell Sage, will focus on seasonal ingredients from Borough and Maltby Street markets as well as from across the British Isles, complemented by Mediterranean produce with an emphasis on artisan producers.

The Gordon Ramsay Group, run by Stuart Gillies, has 25 restaurants globally and nine Michelin stars.
