Rebecca Mascarenhas announces closure of Sonny's Kitchen in Barnes

Restaurateur Rebecca Mascarenhas has announced the closure of Sonny's Kitchen in Barnes, 33 years after its original opening.

Mascarenhas opened the neighbourhood restaurant as Sonny's in 1986 serving modern British dishes. In 2014 Michelin-starred chef Phil Howard joined her as co-owner and the pair rebranded the site as Sonny's Kitchen.

They had already collaborated on Kitchen W8 in Kensington, which had won a Michelin star a year after opening, and would go on to co-own Elystan Street in Chelsea.

Mascarenhas also owns Home SW15 in Putney and invests in several young chefs' projects around the capital.

An announcement regarding the future of the site of Sonny's Kitchen is expected in the coming months.
