Red's True BBQ to open Newcastle restaurant as part of expansion drive

Restaurant group Red's True BBQ is the latest name added to the restaurant line-up at Newcastle's intu Eldon Square, opening this autumn.

The company has submitted an application to Newcastle City Council's building control service to carry out internal alterations, fit-out and associated works at the site, which has been renamed Grey's Quarter.

The leisure and shopping complex is set to open its new £25m dining area with 20 new sites this autumn, including pizza restaurant Inferno, burger brand Smashburger and bubble tea brand Chatime.

Red's True BBQ was set up four years ago by James Douglas, a former property entrepreneur, and former sales director Scott Munro. The group has opened outlets in Headingley, Manchester, Nottingham, Shoreditch, Liverpool and Sheffield since the first Red's outlet opened in Leeds in 2012.

The news comes after the brand announced expansion plans after having secured a £9m investment deal in December 2015. As well as a Sheffield site announced in January this year, the Newcastle restaurant is part of the group's plan to open 8-10 smokehouses over the next two years.
