Restaurateur Russell Norman to open fourth Polpo site

Restaurateur Russell Norman (pictured) and business partner Richard Beatty are set to open a new Polpo restaurant in London's Notting Hill.

The 100-cover site will be the largest of the four Polpo restaurants in the group, which also includes Covent Garden, Smithfield, and Soho, the latter of which was the first to open in 2009. The restaurants describe themselves as "bacaros", which translates as a humble, Venetian restaurant serving simple food and wine.

The new opening joins a burgeoning portfolio of businesses that includes sister restaurant Polpetto, the deli Mishkin's and Italian-American bar Spuntino, also in Soho. Norman and Beatty, who won the 2012 Newcomer Catey award, have sometimes attracted controversy due to their staunch defence of the company's no-booking policy.

In May this year the pair also announced the opening of a new pub in Covent Garden's Cambridge Circus, on the site of the Marquis of Granby, which will serve traditionally British food such as Scotch egg, devilled kidneys on toast, and whole poached trout.
