Robert Thompson joins Isle of Wight's George hotel

Robert Thompson has been appointed head chef at the George hotel on the Isle of Wight.

The new venture is expected to be called Ila's and will open on 1 May, although a spokesperson for Thompson said that the details were as yet unconfirmed.

Thompson was previously chef-proprietor of the Hambrough on the Isle of Wight, where he held a Michelin star.

He was also named as culinary ambassador of the Isle of Wight in 2013, and is a former Caterer and Hotelkeeper Acorn Award winner.

Thompson said: "I'm honoured to be working on a new project at the George and to be able to continue my career on the Isle of Wight. There are exciting plans under way for both the George's dining, and the hotel itself, which will be announced in more detail over the coming months."
