Russell Bateman named Pétrus head chef following Larry Jayasekara's departure

Russell Bateman has taken up the position of head chef at Gordon Ramsay's Pétrus in Knightsbridge, following the departure of Larry Jayasekara.

The departure Jayasekara, named National Chef of the Year in 2016, was confirmed in April.

Yesterday the the Michelin-starred, 60-cover restaurant posted a picture of Bateman, who was National Chef of the Year 2014, to Instagram with the caption: "Join us in welcoming our new head chef."

Bateman, formerly head chef at Colette's restaurant at the Grove in Chandler's Cross in Hertfordshire, has previously worked under Marcus Wareing, Marc Veyrat, Daniel Clifford and Aiden Byrne.

The appointment marks something of a return for Bateman, who worked with Wareing at Pétrus' first incarnation in St James' Street.
