Santini shuts to refurbish after fire

Italian restaurant Santini in London's Belgravia has shut for refurbishment after a fire gutted its kitchen late last month.

The 60-seat restaurant with a 40-seat terrace will reopen in the last week of July, after the kitchen has been rebuilt and the restaurant redecorated.

Owner Laura Santin confirmed a fire had broken out behind a kitchen wall but said the cost of the damage could not be revealed, for insurance reasons. No staff or customers were hurt.

"We are trying to turn a negative situation into a positive one by using the time to take on a few more staff, plan menus and think about systems," said Santin.
