Second Bangalore Express to open in the City
Indian restaurant the Painted Heron in London's Chelsea has teamed up with Charles Hill, owner of Bangalore Express, to launch a second restaurant in the City.
The new Bangalore Express, which will open on 21 September, will comprise a 135-seat basement restaurant on Gracechurch Street.
Serving a classic Indian menu, the new £1.9m eatery will also include a 40-cover bar area serving an Indian tapas menu.
Head chef Yogesh Datta will be heading up the kitchen, having previously been head chef at the Painted Heron since its launch in 2002. Prior to moving to London, he worked in kitchens in India and Dubai.
Dishes will include Thalis, Tandooris and Dosas ranging in price from £2.75-£16, with tapas such as lamb meat balls in tempered mint yoghurt priced at £4.75 per dish.
Outline Architects has created a red and grey interior which mixes booths and freestanding tables.
This will be Bangalore Express's second London restaurant, after the original site in Waterloo.
