Suri restaurant closes after five months of trading

Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurant Suri on King Street in Manchester has closed after five months in operation.

Suri, which translates to ‘red rose' in Persian, opened in March after refurbishment of what was formerly Quill restaurant.

Guy Callister headed up the kitchen, which served sharing dishes such as halloumi shish kebab, cauliflower lahmacun, ox cheek kibbeh, and salmon sumac pie.

It was launched by Terence Langley, co-owner of Fazenda in Spitalfields and property consultants Andrea George and James Coubrough.

An automated reply from the restaurant's e-mail address said: "Due to unavoidable unforeseen circumstances, Suri has now had to close its doors for good. We would like to thank all of those who have enjoyed our fantastic food during our brief time in the sun."

While the Twitter and Facebook accounts just states: "Yes it's true" referring to an article published by the Manchester Evening News (MEN) yesterday.

Speaking to the MEN, Terence said: "It's a real shame. I think ultimately we misread the market with this particular concept and style of offering. All the people involved gave their all to it, but the one single missing ingredient perhaps was its authenticity.

"The site is in an amazing location and a great building. Something exciting might just happen there in the future."
