The 5 biggest openings of the week: featuring Pharmacy 2 from Damien Hirst and Mark Hix
A look at the latest restaurants, hotels, pubs and bars to open their doors
Pharmacy 2
Artist Damien Hirst has opened a new restaurant at Newport Street Gallery in Vauxhall, London, in collaboration with chef Mark Hix. The venue will serve classic British and European foods.
Entry to the gallery, which is currently showing work by British abstract painter John Hoyland, is free. The restaurant also exhibits site-specific work from a number of Hirst's most iconic series, including his medicine cabinets.
Hirst said: "Pharmacy 2 combines two of my greatest passions; art and food. I've always loved Mark as a chef and his approach to food, so it's great we're working together on this." Hix added: "Damien and I have been friends for many years. Damien designed a formaldehyde Cock and Bull for my restaurant, Tramshed, so it makes sense for me to exchange my skills by creating the menus at Pharmacy 2."
