The Checkers in Montgomery wins a Michelin star for Wales
Wales has seen one new Michelin star, in the shape of the Checkers in Montgomery, Montgomeryshire.
But the country was left with the same overall number of stars in 2012, after Ynshir Hall in Machynlleth, Powys, was deleted.
Stéphane Borie, chef proprietor at the Checkers, said he and his team were thrilled with the news, particularly since the business only opened in March 2010 after he moved from the nearby Herbert Arms in Chirbury.
"I am very surprised, but it is teamwork obviously," Borie said. "We didn't really expect anything because we have have been in business for such a small amount of time."
Wales's four Michelin starred establishments are:
Walnut Tree, Abergavenny/Llanddewi Skirrid, Monmouthshire
Tyddyn Llan, Llandrillo, Denbighshire
Crown at Whitebrook, Monmouth/Whitebrook, Monmouthshire
The Checkers, Montgomery, Montgomeryshire
