The Good Egg hits £500,000 crowdfunding target

Jewish deli the Good Egg has hit its crowdfunding target of £500,000 which will enable it to open a second site in Soho's Kingly Court.

It has raised £507,210 from 315 investors so far, and has eight days remaining of the campaign.

The Soho site is anticipated to have over 100 covers and feature a feature a bakery and retail area that serves Israeli-inspired baked goods and extended brunch and dinner menus for eat-in, takeaway and delivery.

Co-founder Joel Braham left a career in acoustic consultancy to open the Good Egg with chefs Alex Coppard and Oded Mizrachi. The first Good Egg restaurant opened in Stoke Newington after a successful crowdfunding campaign in 2015.

Dishes at the Soho site will be inspired by the cuisine in Montreal, Canada, alongside the street food scene in Israel and old Jewish recipes.

The menu, which will change seasonally, will be designed for sharing. It will serve brunch and dinner menus for eat in, takeaway and delivery.

Dishes on the Stoke Newington menu include: braised octopus with baby pink fir potatoes and pickled chilli; dak dak salad with cucumbers, pickled quince, radish, pomegranate and pine nuts; za'atar fried chicken thighs with chilli honey; and Oded's Babka.

The brand plans to open another restaurant before 2020 and has an exit-plan in place.
