The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts to hold 35th anniversary dinner

A celebration dinner to mark the 35th anniversary of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (RACA) will take place at the Royal Automobile Club, London on 6 December.

The special event will be held in honour of Dr Michel Bourdin, one of the founders of the academy in the UK. He is also well-known for his executive chef position at the Connaught hotel, where he worked for 26 years.

Born in June 1942, Michel Bourdin inherited his love of food from his grandmother, who ran a restaurant, Brasserie Bourdin, in the Rue de Temple, Paris. He began cooking professionally at the age of 16, spending the early part of his career at the two-Michelin starred Restaurant Ledoyen on the Champs Elysées, Paris; the Grand Hotel in Dinard, Brittany; and Apotel Etoile, Paris.

He won the first Michelin star for the Connaught in 1975, followed by a second star three years later.

The six-course menu at the anniversary dinner will consist of classic French Michel Bourdin Connaught dishes with a modern twist for the occasion. It will be in aid of the Michel Bourdin Foundation and will form the launch of the inaugural Michel Bourdin Scholarship.

The scholarship will be awarded to a culinary art student who has demonstrated talent and shown triumph over adversity. The winner will receive a two-week stage at the Connaught, followed by two weeks at Jacques Chibois.

Dishes will be prepared by a collective of Bourdin boys' brigade including Michael Aldridge, Hebert Berger, Oliver Lesnik, Jerome Ponchelle, Carolyn Power, Deborah Power Giles Thompson and Philip Corrick at the RAC who was behind the idea of the dinner.

The event will also include a Champagne and canapé reception, menu with matching wines, an auction and raffle.

Proceeds will also support the RACA Adopt a School Trust.
