Tofu burgers and veggie sausages face the chop under EU plans

The European parliament is looking to ban "misleading" practices that see terms such as steak, burger, escalope and sausage used to describe products that don't contain meat.

If approved, the revisions to food labelling regulations could see the demise of the tofu burger and veggie sausage, with social media users putting forward alternatives such as "Quorn tubes" or "veggie discs".

The proposal will be voted on by the full parliament after the parliament's May election, having gained the approval of its agriculture committee earlier this week.
