Tom Sellers to move Restaurant Story brigade to Cornwall for summer residency

Tom Sellers will close Michelin-starred Restaurant Story for six weeks this summer and move his brigade to the Cornish coast where they will launch a residency while doing their bit to clear plastic from the sea.

Story by the Sea will set up in Carbis Bay close to its privately-owned Blue Flag beach, and serve a menu inspired by the ocean and showcasing what the area has to offer with dishes including crab tart as well as lobster and leek.

A cocktail menu will feature twists on classics as well as signature offerings from Restaurant Story.

The team will also work with ocean campaigners Parley to remove 50 metric tonnes of plastic from the sea. Parley has teamed up with artists including Doug Aitken, Jenny Holzer and Julian Schnabel to create a range of tote bags made from plastic bottles taken from the sea, which will be presented to guests at the end of their meal while also being available for sale from the Story website. Every sale will lead to the removal of 10kg of marine plastic.

Sellers said, "I have always had the fondest memories of the seaside and a very loving relationship with our oceans. The ocean is a magical gift we have been given, along with everything found within it, and I feel extremely lucky to have this opportunity to cook within Carbis Bay. The ocean and all that surrounds it will shape our vision for the menu's creative process and cooking style."

Story by the Sea will run from 2 August to 14 September 2019. The restaurant will offer a five-course set lunch menu for £95 and a six-course dinner menu available for £125 excluding service charge.
