TRG sees positive start to 2013 and plans up to 35 new openings

The Restaurant Group (TRG), which owns the Frankie and Benny's and Chiquito brands, has hailed a positive start to 2013, as it revealed a 9% increase in revenues in 2012.

The company, which operates 422 restaurants across the country, hit sales of £533m for the past year to 30 December 2012. Like-for-like sales over the period were up 4.5% and adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) was up 6.5% to £95.5m.

Meanwhile chief executive Andrew Page said the company had enjoyed a strong start to 2013, with like-for-like sales up 6.5% so far.

TRG, which also operates Garfunkel's, and Brunning and Price pubs, opened 28 new restaurants in 2012 and said it was particularly pleased with its new Coast to Coast restaurant concept, which occupies five units.

Frankie and Benny's remains the group's largest brand, with 217 restaurants, with another 13 to 17 planned for the coming year after what TRG termed a "superb" performance in 2012.

There were no new Chiquito openings in 2012 although four to six are planned this year. There are currently 69 Chiquito sites.

Meanwhile Garfunkel's which makes up 25 units in the TRG estate endured a tough Olympics but trade picked up later in the year. Two more are planned this year.

The company also has 45 pub restaurants and 61 concessions. It plans to open a total of another 28 to 35 new restaurants across the group in the coming year.
