Twitter invites restaurants to join its own #RestaurantWeek

Micro-blogging website Twitter is to launch its own Restaurant Week, inviting restaurants to register and then tweet behind-the-scenes insights.

Running from 2-8 June, #RestaurantWeek will see restaurants tweeting under a different hashtag (#) each day, with each keyword covering a different aspect of the industry. Restaurants wishing to register can do so via this link: https://twitter.twimg.com/RestaurantWeek.

Tweets, photos, videos and Vines (six-second videos via an app) are intended to give a view from "behind kitchen doors", and offer users an insight into the day-to-day hospitality business.

The initiative has won support from the British Hospitality Association (BHA), online review and booking site Open Table, and the Restaurant Association of Ireland. It is intended to help businesses better understand social media, engage better with customers, and celebrate the work done by restaurant staff. It is also hoped that it will help restaurants showcase their menus, improve links with their community, and bring in more business.

The campaign will also host a free webinar for restaurant owners, managers and marketers, on two dates in May. Ufi Ibrahim, chief executive of the British Hospitality Association said that the BHA was pleased to be working with Twitter to support restaurants.

She said: "Culturally, eating out is now part of everyday life. This provides the industry with the most amazing potential to engage customers more deeply via social media. We are confident that the webinars will offer our members a fantastic and highly beneficial tool for communicating directly with their customers and bringing their restaurants to life online."
