Upstairs at the Ten Bells chefs to open first restaurant proper next year
Chefs Isaac McHale, Daniel Willis and Johnny Smith, who have been running the restaurant Upstairs at the Ten Bells in east London, are set to open their first restaurant proper next year.
The trio will open the Clove Club at Shoreditch Town Hall in February 2013. The restaurant will form part of the regeneration of the Grade II-listed building into a theatre, arts space and creative hub.
Both menus will showcase the chefs' interpretation of seasonal British food, featuring signature dishes such as buttermilk chicken and pine salt; chicory teacakes; wood pigeon sausages; and razor clams baked in hay.
Commenting on the opening McHale said: "This is it. We are finally stepping up and opening the restaurant we have always wanted to. The food in the restaurant will be ambitious, and in the bar, fun. It's been a long time coming and we look forward to welcoming old friends and new faces into the fabulous Shoreditch Town Hall space which is the Clove Club."
The chefs will continue to run the restaurant Upstairs at the Ten Bells, where head chef Giorgio Ravelli is in charge of the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
