Village East to pop up as Sky Canteen on Bermondsey rooftop

London restaurant Village East will open as a weekly rooftop pop-up throughout August, while the permanent site undergoes a major refurbishment.

Village London's Bermondsey Street venue will feature on a Tooley St rooftop for five consecutive Thursdays, beginning 1 August, under the moniker Sky Canteen.

The restaurant group's new executive chef Toby Stuart has designed a three-course sharing menu for the pop-up, priced at £25 a head, which includes burrata, grilled peach and fennel fairy dust, confit belly of pork, clams, carrot and buttermilk and chocolate and orange blossom truffle.

Commenting on the project Village London founder Adam White said: "We wanted to use this as a way to allow Toby to experiment with the new Village East menu. Our guests have always been where we draw important feedback, and the Sky Canteen lets us garner an insight into what it is the Bermondsey village is craving.

"This was also a great way to keep our team involved throughout the closure. Both front of house and back of house have participated from inception to execution. We see this as a way to develop our staff, by challenging them in an alternative environment. It has definitely been an exciting project for the whole Village London squad and we are looking forward to seeing it come to fruition"

A concise wine list featuring one white, one red, one rose and one sparkling will be available, with each bottle priced at £20. Three cocktails, priced at £6, will be on offer on rotation.
