Wahaca and Turtle Bay to open in Liverpool One
Casual dining groups Wahaca and Turtle Bay are to open new sites in the Hanover Street area of the Liverpool One shopping and leisure district.
Mexican-style restaurant Wahaca, co-founded by Thomasina Miers, and Caribbean-style group Turtle Bay will open in 6,833 sq ft and 3,066 sq ft units respectively. Wahaca is set to open before Christmas, while Turtle Bay will be ready in the New Year 2016.
The sites are the most recent to confirm openings in the complex, soon after Red's True Barbecue, which was announced in August. The area is also home to a host of other restaurants, bars, and hotels, including Bem Brasil, Catalan-style restaurant Lunya, Bistro Franc, Premier Inn Liverpool City Centre, and the Novotel Liverpool Centre.
Wahaca currently has 20 sites, including 17 in London; while Turtle Bay has 22 across the country, including in Manchester's Northern Quarter, Preston, Derby, Bristol, Southampton, Oxford and London.
Commenting on the new opening, Miers said: "Liverpool is unparalleled as a UK cultural hub, and we have been looking for the right location here for a while. The opportunity to move into Liverpool One in a great position on College Lane was an easy choice for us."
Miles Dunnett, director of portfolio management at the centre's managing company Grosvenor Fund Management, said: "With sales, footfall and dwell all growing year-on-year, demand for space in Liverpool One is at its strongest, as reflected in these latest signings. Wahaca and Turtle Bay each bring something very different to the city."
