Westfield in discussions to open new restaurants
Westfield London, the £1.6b retail development in White City, has unveiled plans to launch a number of new restaurants and overhaul the marketing of food outlets as it marks its first six months.
Divided into three distinct areas, the Balcony, the Loft and the Southern Terrace, Westfield is currently home to nearly 50 dining outlets featuring 25 different types of cuisine.
Rachel Belam, food leasing executive at Westfield, revealed that the group was on the look out for three new concepts to further diversify its offer.
"We're looking to sign a gastropub, an Indian and a fish restaurant and are currently in discussions with operators," she told Caterersearch.
Not all operators have been happy with its current efforts to market Westfield's Southern Terrace and the restaurants housed within.
Mark Selby, managing director of Mexican restaurant group Wahaca, which has an outlet at Westfield, said: "Many people aren't even aware that the Southern Terrace of restaurants exists and more could be done to promote it."
In response, Belam said Westfield was "constantly looking to improve things". "We're actively working with operators on the marketing of the restaurants on the Southern Terrace," she added.
Marketing material currently available at information stands in Westfield includes a dining guide called "Food Glorious Food", which highlights all of the restaurants and food stalls on offer at the mall.
Another guide including vouchers and specials offers will be mailed out to local businesses and residents in a bid to drive footfall shortly.
