World Cup scores consumer spending boost

Consumer spending grew by 5.1% in June as World Cup fever gripped the nation, according to data from Barclaycard.

Spending on entertainment saw the largest increase of 11.3%, with pubs scoring 33% growth as England defeated Tunisia in their opening match and a 9.5% boost across the month.

Restaurants saw an increase in spending of 9.7%, with Brits increasing their spending to make the most of the hot weather.
