Yorkshire Meatball Company eyes crowdfunding and expansion

The Yorkshire Meatball Company, which currently runs two restaurants, is set to launch a crowdfunding campaign to help fund the expansion of its Harrogate site.

The two-year-old business is run by father and son team David and Gareth Atkinson and opened a second, 70-cover speciality meatball restaurant at Splendid Hospitality Group's Hotel Indigo York Walmgate last year.

Now it hopes to raise £100,000 through a month-long campaign on crowdfunding platform Crowdcube to help expand its original Harrogate site by adding 20 covers in an all-weather outside area. The full details of the campaign have yet to be announced.

David said: "We have got an external space in Harrogate that we can develop that to give us an extra 20 covers and make the whole building vista more attractive and it will act as a magnet for customers.

"I wouldn't say the location is the best but it is working for us. What we do need to do is develop it further and having run it for two years, we know what we need to do to make it more profitable."

He added that the company also plans to launch a retail range of meatballs that he hopes will in turn help fund further expansion of both franchised and owned sites. He said he hoped that the business could grow to another three sites, preferably in city centres, over the next three years.
