Chef Robert Ortiz is no longer affiliated with the Lima Group following the opening of his own restaurant, Chakana in Birmingham.

Initial reports said the Peruvian chef would continue in his role as culinary director of the Lima Group alongside his first solo venture, which opened on 26 September.

However, representatives for both Chakana and Lima have confirmed Ortiz' departure, with Sergio Arocas promoted to replace Ortiz as head chef at Lima London in Fitzrovia, having worked for the group for five years and previously worked as sous chef at Sushisamba in Liverpool Street.

Lima Group co-founder Gabriel Gonzalez said Ortiz "remains a close friend of the Lima Group" and "we wish him all the best with his new venture Chakana".

As of next month, Adrian Sanchez will also be taking over the head chef position at Lima Floral in Covent Garden, replacing Patricia Roig, who was appointed to the role last summer and will be leaving next month.

Gonzalez added: "We are excited for the direction of the Lima group to be led by these two talented, young chefs."

Restaurateurs Gabriel and Jose-Luis Gonzalez are themselves opening Venezuelan casual dining concept Sabroso in the Westfield White City shopping centre later this month.
