The bespoke in-house catering business is being headed by Ben Tobin-Paris, who was previously at Smart Group’s Moving Venue
Broadwick and Smart Group have launched Salt Hospitality Studio, a bespoke in-house catering business that will oversee Broadwick’s dozen-strong London venue portfolio.
The announcement comes after Broadwick and Smart Group entered a catering joint venture in April after a decade of working together.
Salt Hospitality Studio takes its name from the kitchen staple, aiming to be as fundamental to events as salt is to cooking.
Ben Tobin-Paris has been appointed managing director of Salt after a decade at Moving Venue. He will lead on the strategic development of the newly launched business, overseeing venue integration and F&B.
He told The Caterer: “Building a brand from scratch with a brand new ethos and aesthetic is something I’m really excited about. To have the opportunity to do something like this from the ground up is once in a lifetime.
“Throughout my career at Moving Venue, Broadwick Venues have been there. It was during my first week at Moving Venue that we became the caterer at Landing Forty Two, and I was on the hard-hat site for Magazine London. I have always enjoyed such a great relationship with the Broadwick team so building on that is going to be special.”
Tobin-Paris foresees a smooth transition for Salt once it starts managing Broadwick’s venues come November. The business can benefit from an established team and kitchen, courtesy of Broadwick and Smart Group.
Compared to Moving Venue, Salt will offer a more “stripped back aesthetic”, as well as a “contemporary style” of events.
“We’ll bring [Moving Venue’s] scalability and logistical expertise. We’re very good at delivering events in challenging spaces, which we will carry with us, but the look and feel of the brand will be very distinct. There’s a Broadwick way of delivering events.
“We’ll also offer house dishes tailored to our clients. So at the Pelligon, we’ll serve dishes that suit its stye, which will differ from Banking Hall, which is much more traditional,” Tobin-Paris added.
Salt will operate independently as the exclusive hospitality partner across Broadwick’s London venue portfolio, which consists of Magazine London, Troxy, Exhibition White City, Control Room A, OXO2, Banking Hall, Landing Forty Two, Drumsheds, Landing Canary Wharf, Broadwick Studio, 26 Leake Street and The Pelligon.
Brad Thompson, managing director of Broadwick, commented: “Ben has spent a decade delivering hospitality across Broadwick venues and understands both the operational realities of delivering at scale and the importance of creating experiences that genuinely belong within a space. The relationships, standards and results he has helped build across our venues speak for themselves.”
Broadwick and Smart Group together deliver more than 3,500 events annually across venue operations, hospitality and live experiences, generating in excess of £100m in revenue.
Smart Group, established in 1999, is a London-based hospitality, catering and venue group delivering over 1,000 events annually across brands such as Moving Venue, Last Supper, Story Events, and Smart Parties.
