Ban on social gatherings of more than six people extended to Scotland

The limiting of social gatherings to six people will also be introduced in Scotland from Monday, first minister Nicola Sturgeon has said.

The limit, which prime minister Boris Johnson confirmed for England yesterday, will apply both indoors and outdoors, across private and public spaces including hospitality venues.

Sturgeon also announced that face coverings will be mandatory in hospitality settings when moving around or not eating and drinking. It will also be mandatory for hospitality staff to wear face coverings.

She said: "These steps are necessary to help curb a virus that we know spreads rapidly whenever it gets the chance."
