Sonora Taquería in London announces closure

Sonora Taquería in London’s Stoke Newington is to close its doors on Halloween.

In a post on Instagram, the Mexican restaurant wrote: “We always seem to do the opposite of what’s expected of us, but it’s worked out well so far.

“We don’t know what will come next but the future feels exciting! Thank you again to everyone and let’s enjoy the last 2 months of the taqueria. Gracias eternas.”

Michelle Salazar de la Rocha and Sam Napier started Sonora Taquería as a food stall in London Fields in 2020 before launching it as a bricks and mortar site in 2023.

It became known for its authentic and affordable tacos, with Time Out food critic Leonie Cooper describing the restaurant as an “unpretentious, extremely hyped Mexican joint”.
