Sticks’n’Sushi to open first Scottish restaurant

Danish restaurant group Sticks’n’Sushi is set to open its first Scottish restaurant in Glasgow this November.

The 177-cover dining room and bar on George Square has been designed by OEO Studio, the Danish design firm behind Noma Kyoto.

The launch will take the total number of Sticks’n’Sushi restaurants across Denmark, the UK and Germany to 31 sites.

The menu will feature the likes of beef tataki, beef fillet with miso aioli, wagyu tartare and avocado, miso-glazed black cod and grilled duck with egg yolk.

Sticks ’n’ Sushi was founded by half-Danish, half-Japanese brothers Kim and Jens Rahbek Hansen and Thor Anderson in 1994.

Following the launch of the first restaurant in Copenhagen, the group has grown to 12 restaurants in and around the Danish capital, 15 across the UK and three in Berlin, Germany.

In January 2024, private equity firm McWin, which also backs Big Mamma Group and Gail’s, acquired Sticks’n’Sushi and announced plans to expand it into new markets over the next five years.

In April of this year, Formula One driver Fernando Alonso also became an investor in the restaurant group.
