New development kitchen at Brakes
Food service supplier Brakes has opened a £250,000 development kitchen at its manufacturing site in Flint, North Wales.
The new facility will be the home of the company's bespoke product development work and will allow greater synergy with the factory, where products are manufactured for individual customers.
Besides a development kitchen and meeting rooms, the facility has a presentation kitchen designed to replicate a typical commercial kitchen to ensure demonstrations are as close as possible to a working kitchen environment.
Adande scoops design award
Adande Refrigeration, of Lowestoft, Suffolk, has picked up the Foodservice Consultants Society International (FCSI) European Award of Special Distinction for Development Design for its VariCool unit.
The unit consists of independently temperature-controlled drawers offering flexibility between chilled, frozen and ambient storage.
The award recognises exceptional innovation in product research, design and development.
£2.5m-a-year frozen foods supply deal
ISS Mediclean, which provides cleaning and catering services to more than 300 NHS hospitals, has entered into a three-year contract with Brakes as its sole supplier of frozen foods. The contract is worth £2.5m annually.
"Brakes has the logistical competency to ensure the efficient provision of a diverse, high quality and exciting range of meals is available at all our locations," commented John Pearce, purchasing manager for ISS Mediclean.
Masterfoods sets up customer website
A new website for food service customers has been set up by Masterfoods. The site includes more than 400 recipes, a monthly newsletter and information on the company's products which include the Uncle Ben's and Dolmio brands.
