The Imperial Bloomsbury in London confirms opening date

The Imperial Bloomsbury in London is to open on 14 August under general manager Remus Obertelli.

The relaunch of the 357-bedroom hotel features what is believed to be the neighbourhood’s first rooftop bar and restaurant, Arcus, and an outpost of Bib Gourmand-winning pasta restaurant group, Bancone.

Obertelli formerly held management roles at Red Carnation Hotels’ Rubens at the Palace and Hotel 41, and was most recently involved in the post-pandemic relaunch of ME London.

He is joined by Abismael Urena Castillo, head chef of Arcus, previously of Le Gavroche, and Arcus bar manager Floriano Cubeddu, who was based at Cé La Vi in London’s Paddington and the Goring in London’s Belgravia.

Other senior appointments include head of housekeeping Signe Arbidane, head of food and beverage Tugend Demir, people and development manager Joshoy Stephens and head chef for the Imperial, Denver Reid.

The hotel’s relaunch has created 200 jobs.

The original building was designed by Charles Fitzroy Doll and constructed in 1904, but in the 1960s it was knocked down to make room for the modernist property that stands today.

Over the years, the hotel has welcomed the likes of Barbara Windsor and Margaret Thatcher.

Imperial London Hotels is a seventh generation family-run hospitality company dating back to 1837.

The Bloomsbury-based portfolio encompasses eight hotels, including the Bedford hotel, Tavistock hotel, President hotel,  Morton hotel, Royal National hotel, City Sleeper at Royal National, the Imperial and Holiday Inn Bloomsbury.
