The Inn Collection Group reopens police station in Northallerton as a pub

A former North Yorkshire police station has been transformed into a pub with 30 bedrooms following a multi-million-pound redevelopment.

The Inn Collection Group has spent 18 months remodelling the building in the market town of Northallerton to create the Northallerton Inn.

The Georgian, grade-II-listed property has stood empty since North Yorkshire Police services were moved to new force headquarters in the town in 2017. It had housed the police station for 30 years, having previously been a local authority office and public library.

The new pub offers a bar and dining area for 200 covers and a private dining room called the Custody Suite.

Sean Donkin, managing director of the Inn Collection Group, said he was "delighted" with the transformation. "We have pulled out all the stops to do justice to the building and its fascinating past while giving the building a brand-new purpose as an inn."

Jules Gibson, general manager of the Northallerton Inn, added: "The inn is everything we planned it to be – a lovely, laid-back place where people can pop in for a drink or good food in a home-from-home environment."

The Northallerton Inn was officially opened by John Proud, retired inspector of Northallerton Police Station, who was in charge there between 1995 and 2003.

The Inn Collection Group, which was acquired in February by the Harris Family Trust and Kings Park Capital from Alchemy Partners in a deal believed to be worth more than £300m, operates a portfolio of 31 venues in the north of England.
