Top honour for Roux

Britain's longest-serving three-Michelin-starred chef, Michel Roux, was presented with France's premier order on Monday night.

The presentation of a Chevalier dans l'ordre de la Légion d'Honneur was made at Roux's Waterside Inn in Bray, Berkshire.

Other chefs at the ceremony included fellow three-star chefs Michel Troisgros from Roanne, France, and recently crowned chef-proprietor Heston Blumenthal of Waterside Inn neighbour the Fat Duck, and Roux's brother Albert and nephew Michel, chef-patron of Le Gavroche in London.

Roux said he was proud and honoured, but took the opportunity to apologise to his children for not giving them attention when they were young because of his profession. "I hope you will have children one day," he said. "I promise to be a very good grandpa."
