York B&B to relaunch as boutique hotel

Local businessman Nick Bradley has acquired Holgate Bridge bed and breakfast in York in a deal worth £2m and is set to relaunch the property as an independent hotel.

The Grade II-listed townhouse is being transformed into a boutique hotel and will be renamed New Holgate when it reopens in March, with 11 bedrooms as well as dining options for both guests and local residents.

Overnight stays will range from £200 to £300, with options including double rooms, luxury suites and duplex family suites, with hot chocolate machines and gaming stations.

Bradley – who is also chief executive of business coaching group Mandala Leaders, a board member at the Institute of Directors and a non-executive director of Gundog Property – said: "To be able to create something new for York is an opportunity that I haven't taken lightly. My team and I have thought really carefully about how we can be the space for the local residents to enjoy, just as much as the holiday makers. We're designing something warm, welcoming, exciting; the heart of Holgate."

The interior renovation will be managed by Yorkshire-based interior design practice Studio Two, which has been tasked with creating a stylish space with strong nods to the industrial history of Holgate, through metals including iron beams, and artwork.
