2014 British BBQ champion announced

The 2014 British BBQ Battle Champion has been named as Graham Crump, group executive chef at the University of Warwick.

The final cook-off, which took place last month at Blenheim Palace, got under way with a masterclass by president of the British BBQ Association Ben Bartlett.

Inspired by Bartlett, each finalist had just one hour to recreate and present four servings of each of their three courses they previously submitted. Each cooking session was presided over by the judging panel which consisted of Bartlett, Chris Basten and Martin Bates from the Craft Guild of Chefs, and Bill Verity, president of Crown Verity.

Crump's winning menu was a starter of king prawns with pickle lemon coriander and garlic butter, in a Lion yoghurt and mint dressing, a main of lamb ox-spring kebab served on a toasted flatbread, crispy salad and crunchy pork popcorn, with a Lion hickory barbecue sauce and Lion ranch dressing and for dessert a banana, marshmallow and chocolate brioche.
